For Doctors
Multidisciplinary Case Review and Treatment Planning:
The Liver Centre SA conducts weekly multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs) to ensure comprehensive, evidence-based management of complex liver disease. These meetings bring together hepatologists, hepatobiliary surgeons, interventional radiologists, and oncologists to review individual patient cases in detail.
Clinical history, laboratory results, imaging, histology, and disease staging are collectively assessed to formulate consensus-driven, individualised management plans. This collaborative approach supports optimal decision-making across the full spectrum of liver disease, with the aim of achieving the best possible clinical outcomes for all patients.

How We Work
A Collaborative Model of Care
The Liver Centre South Africa is founded on the belief that complex liver care cannot be confined to one system.
Through our public–private collaborative framework, patients benefit from:
Seamless referral pathways between tertiary academic hospitals and private institutions.
Shared expertise and multidisciplinary board discussions across both sectors.
Access to specialized interventional and surgical care regardless of medical aid status.
Unified clinical governance ensuring consistent, evidence-based standards.
This partnership model allows for:
Increased patient throughput and procedure volumes (ensuring world-class expertise)
Shared access to technology (angio suites, hybrid theatres, advanced imaging)
Joint academic output, including research publications and teaching workshops
